Description

Knuckle beasts have highly variable horn growth and most individuals possess at least two, though polycerate (multiple horned) are not uncommon. Most Knuckle beast horns greatly resemble those found on antelope and deer species and are used for defense, fighting and display. Sallows (female KBs) tend to have larger and more elaborate horns than dirks (males) but dominant males in a bachelor herd may possess ornate horns as well. Horns are very strong and not shed and consist of a hard, bony core that is covered with a sheath of keratin. Horns may be broken in battle, in which case, they will never grow back. Nose horns are rarely seen but not unheard of and are more common in Plains KBs than in any other subspecies. On very rare occasions, a KB may have two nose horns. Most KBs with nose horns also possess normal horns. Horns come in a variety of NATURAL colors, ranging from sandy brown to black. Horns can sometimes be dual toned. (Please ask about nose horns and rare/super rare before adding one to a design.) Knuckle beasts that are trained as steeds may have covering or jewelry on their horns but they do not decorate their horns themselves, nor any other part of their bodies. Obviously there are heaps more types of horns, but these illustrations demonstrate the basic shape and size. Some KBs have multiple smaller horns too.

Here is more information on KBs:

Size and Appearance: Knuckle beasts are large, Andrewsarchus-sized, mammal-like reptiles with muscular shoulders and hindquarters and a distinctive loping gait. They normally have two horns but some may be polycerate. The max number of horns observed on a single individual was 24. Females are significantly larger and far more aggressive than males and exhibit larger horns and brighter colors. Their primary color is orange but the intensity of coloration depends on their position in the social hierarchy in a pack. Their most distinctive features are their lack of eyes and their enlarged claws used to bring d
